SA Dental is going digital
Important update about your General Dental Care
SA Dental is moving to a digital system with more ways to send your General Dental Scheme (GDS) Offers of Care and connect with you faster.
What this means for you
When your name reaches the top of the general waiting list:
- You will receive your offer of care by SMS (text message) instead of a letter by post, if you are registered for SMS, or
- You will receive your offer of care by post (there is no change), if you are not registered for SMS with SA Dental.
If you are not currently registered for SMS but would like to receive an offer of care by SMS, please contact your local SA Dental clinic.
What your SMS will include
- Your unique GDS Authorisation code.
- A secure link with more information about the General Dental Scheme.
Both are safe to open and designed to support your next steps.
Example SMS:
The SMS can be translated into other languages using standard phone applications on iPhone & android devices.
What to do when you receive your SMS
- Book an appointment within the next 2 weeks at a participating private dental practice.
- Provide your GDS Authorisation code to the practice.
- This ensures that the practice can confirm your eligibility and complete your treatment.
At the end of care, you will receive an SMS to confirm that you received treatment via a secure link.
Treatment confirmation example received - confirm you received treatment

If you do not receive the SMS
If the SMS is invalid or fails to send, an offer of care letter will be posted to you instead.
