Kids dental appointments

Jessica Clark SA Dental HR 0538

Booking a dental appointment

All children and young people under 18 years can access dental care at SA Dental clinics.

There are no waiting lists for general dental care for children.

We recommend children have a dental check-up at around 12 months of age.

When your child turns 18, they may be able to continue accessing dental services at one of our clinics for adults.

When there is no out of pocket cost

There is no out of pocket cost for children who meet any of the following criteria:

  • are under 5 years, or turns 5 during the calendar year.
  • are under the Guardianship of the Chief Executive (GOCE) (Department for Child Protection).
  • are in the day-to-day care of a grand carer (Grandcarers SA) (informal relative carer), supported by a completed statutory declaration.
  • are eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) (Medicare) - for children aged 0 - 17 years.
  • are covered by a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card or School Card Scheme.

Fees may apply for some children

Children aged over 5 and under 18 who do not meet any of the above criteria, are required to pay a fee ($55) for dental care provided in a calendar year.

This fee includes routine dental treatment and dental emergencies treated between appointments.

These arrangements apply even if the child has left school or is working.

If a young person turns 18 during planned dental treatment with SA Dental, their treatment can be completed under these arrangements.
